11th April -Filming the party
Filming the party was a success; although we found it
hard working with a lot of extras as getting people’s attention was difficult. Directing
them to do what we wanted was also something we found challenging as we have a
visual image of what we want our thriller to look like and they do not. To
solve this we showed them our script and storyboard and explained in depth what
our thriller entailed and went through the whole plot, also including information
about our media course. When everyone knew there parts we set the scene with
party cups and food, the hot tub and snooker table was to our advantage for
setting a successful party scene. Our friend mike who is currently taking drama
at G.C.S.E seemed the perfect candidate to play the character of Doug, having certain
similarities to the character, he played his part extremely well and we are grateful
for his time and efforts. When filming myself Lauren and Anastasia
would take it in turns to film certain clips, of course me and Lauren could not
film a great deal within this scene as we are in the majority of scene but the
parts that didn’t involve us on screen we took to the camera to film. I shot Lauren
walking through the house trying to find my character Rose. I shot this clip in
the style of lock stock and two smoking barrels making sure it was a long continuous
shot of the character Maddie looking front wards on. We didn’t use any music in
the process of this filming as we intend to layer homemade dub step on top and
we intend to add in a sound bride from the previous clip where the music is
first played in the room where the girls are getting ready, into the party
opening scene. Filming outside became an issue as the lighting was extremely
dark and we had little aid to resolve this except from a small torch. We hope
to increase the lighting on final cut express throughout the editing process. Minor
details such as the script were changed to suit any changes that had to be
made, for example I wasn’t wearing a dress I wore a skirt instead, so the
script was slightly altered. The costumes people wore were either causal or party
wear. Girls tend to dress up more than boys so our costumes were considerably
more outgoing, at this time of year the weather was not on our side so shooting
outside was extremely cold, but this motivated our filming even more and although
the harsh conditions we didn’t stop until we were satisfied we had the right
shots. We have learnt that filming is incredibly challenging as lines can be
messed up and you can’t shoot something once in case it’s not up to standard.
This meant many shots were filmed taking a significant amount of time. This is
why I organised to film this event in half term so our extras could stay later
in the evening, filming during school time would have not been possible as it
doesn’t become dark until late and it’s very hard to gather people that are available
from those times. Overall we think the party has been a success and are very
thankful to the cast who helped us create the party vibe and atmosphere.
