20th April Update
Today I and Lauren continued with the editing process.
Lauren showed me what she and Anastazja had produced the night before and
it looked very successful and represented the look we wanted. I asked Lauren
how they added the music and she showed me the clips they used and where they
cut them from so I knew and understood what had been accomplished up-to-date.
We added the ending of our sequence which we had previously been filmed the
night before by making sub clips and making sure we had cut the clips to the
appropriate places (Rose and Maddie running out from the party, and the bloody
hand on the tree) before adding visual effects. We then proceeded to add the
beginning back onto the end of the sequence, which we already had our sub clips
for. I managed to find an audio filter that fades the music out, so I added
this to the beginning and end of the sequence. Adding the lighting was temperamental
as it would not show us the filter on screen, so we kept mixing our colours
trying to make it blue and dull then dragging it onto the clip and rendering it
to see what lighting it gave us. This had to be done many times before we got a
satisfactory colour. But we found this filter was only appropriate for the
scenes shot outside in daylight as inside it was too dark so I managed to play
about with the lighting on these certain clips and made it lighter where necessary
but still dark enough to show the mystery we are betraying. When showing our
teacher the sequence so far he told us we would need to re shoot the outside
parts from the party scene as it was too dark and the characters could not been
seen. This would have been an extremely hard task to complete on such short
notice so we set about finding lighting on final cut express that may enhance
our bodies. Luckily we mastered a filter that clearly shows are bodies and
faces throughout the party scene outdoors, redeeming us from having to re
shoot. I added text with the help for another teacher to the very first clip
today. Titling our movie Oracle this was the writing I imposed on the beginning
clip. I made it a typewriter effect and changed the font, sizing, spacing of
letter and colours to fit in with our thriller. Clicking on the framing also
meant you could position the text where you wanted it. For many weeks we didn’t
know how to impose text onto a moving clip but with the teachers aid I found
putting the titling above the sequence in the timeline ensures it’s on the clip
itself. When trying to add a transition we could not work out how to
successfully fade in and out. We asked multiple teachers for help and advice
and we even looked at YouTube videos, but nothing seemed to work. This is
something we will have to investigate further, and hopefully we can achieve
this quickly as our deadline is approaching.
