We had a
double lesson today so we’ve decided to re shoot our Scene 1 because we felt
that we could improve on the camera shots that we’ve used previously- for example the Rule of Thirds for the close up of the feet did not fit well when we combined the shots together, therefore when shooting scene one today, we made sure the Rule of Thirds was followed correctly and took extra time making sure we were able to produce shots we were pleased with. Also we wanted
to film our scene 2 which wouldn’t flow very well as the weather today wasn’t very
nice; there was loads of clouds, windy and it’s been raining so there was loads
of puddles everywhere. So we’ve filmed scene 1 again which was the part where
Maddie and Rose meet in school and they have a conversation whilst they are
walking. This scene went very successfully and didn’t take us as long as before,
because we already have practised doing all the shots from the previous scene
that we’ve filmed, which made it easier for us to know how to film
successfully. A shot we didn't film last time was an establishing shot of the school, however we changed this slightly to just a still shot of the 6th form sign, which would let the audience know where the two characters are as the film flicks back to the previous day- explaining how Rose ended up with blood on her hands (which is the opening shot for out thriller). The scene will then become clearer and easier for the audience to follow.
Then in the
evening we filmed in Jordan’s house which was Maddie’s house. We really wanted
to complete all our filming as we wanted to stick to the deadline on the
timeline, so our aim was to film all of the scenes in one evening. We began
with the very first scene of Maddie washing her hands which were covered in
blood, which we felt went very successfully. We then shot scene 2, when Maddie
and Rose are walking from school, open the front door and the full part where
the girls get ready for the party. There were a few shots and lines in the script
that we’ve changed as we filmed the scene, because we felt that some of the
lines and shots didn’t fit in well properly. For example we decided to use a low angle shot of where Rose opens her bag and the photo falls out (Maddies face has been scratched out) instead of using the idea we had originally of one of the girls standing on the frame- which would have smashed to the floor from Roses bag hitting it. We felt that changing this improved our thriller as we discovered previously that shooting feet walking cloe up and then adding in a long shot from the same angle does not create continuity, and we thought this low angle shot looked much more effective and mysterious. We also had a few difficulties
with filming some of the shots, so it meant that some parts took a very long
time to shoot. Especially the low angle shot when Rose takes out her skirt from her bag and
the picture of her and Maddie (explained previously- the shot that we changed), and Maddies face has been ripped out, yet Rose is still in the picture- foreshadowing danger of Maddies character. However we
didn’t realise how hard it would be to get the shot of the paper falling
straight flat onto the floor, we had to spend around 45 mins filming this 5 second shot. We tried to use many different types of shots which we all think worked
very well such as over the shoulder, high angle, low angle, and long shot. We
also tried to remember about not breaking the 180 degree rule and we shot some
parts of the scene which included rules of thirds which we were very satisfied
with. This included using the door frames and other bars/frames to complete the misce en scene within the shot- such as the bed frame and spiral staircase.
Overall we
think all the scene’s that we’ve filmed today went very successfully and we’re
very excited to start editing it all together tomorrow to see how it will all
work out. However we did not have the time to film the last scene where Rose
kills Maddie. We’ve also decided to change this part of the thriller, because
originally we were going to film it by a telephone box to show how a hand
covered with blood falls down the telephone box, however we felt that it would
look more effective to do it on a tree, because it creates a tense atmosphere,
because we’re going to film it in woods and night so it would make the shot
look very suspicious and scary. Another point to add to this would be that we were thinking of laying the camera on the ground- as if its not ment to be there, filming a mid-shot of the legs of the characters, so the audience is not too sure what is happening- it will be dark too which will add to this tense atmosphere.
